Moosehead Cedar Log Homes Promotes Green Building

With such an emphasis being placed on “green building” nowadays MCLH is having no problem fitting in with the trend.  In fact, MCLH has been promoting and participating in “green building” for years.

It all starts with the use of Northern White Cedar as our primary wood species.  Northern White Cedar is a wood indigenous to the state of Maine, which is where the log home packages are produced.  MCLH partners with wood suppliers who engage in SFI and FSC reforestation programs.  There are several reasons cedar is classified as a “green” building component, from having such a high r-value to natural insect repellants reducing the need for chemical treatment.  Air-drying, as we do, further reduces the need for fuel or electricity needed to kiln dry wood.

MCLH for years has also partnered itself with companies that promote “green techniques” to protect the environment, from adhesives to stains and sealants that are ecology friendly.  Recently, MCLH has partnered with a local design center who promotes “green building” through its’ choices in flooring, cabinets, lighting and other interior finishes.

We are currently in the process of working with a client who is building a green home completely off the grid.  MCLH has been selected as the producer of the log home kit for the project.  Please click here for further details.

If you are considering building “green” then you need not look any further than MCLH for the perfect start to your project.  With our “green” building envelope and our partners, you can be assured that you have made an environmentally sound decision.
